We are a Danish couple who have realised our dream and settled down in the Var, Provence, south eastern France, running a guest house offering bed and breakfast, self catering and much more. Dating from over 400 years ago, to us it is the epitome of southern France culture. The house is situated in the medieval town of Lorgues, located about an hour from Nice by road.
Maison du Midi, as it is called, has a beautiful, large, private garden with palms, mature chestnut trees, several terraces, a boules court, summer kitchen and a swimming pool. All rooms have en suite ‘shower rooms and some a small kitchen. The house has three floors and a large rustic wine cellar suitable for receptions, exhibitions, meetings and the like.
A stay at Maison du Midi is ideal both for those who want a child-friendly place to spend family holidays and those just wanting a romantic holiday for two.
The house is also suitable for larger gatherings such as corporate events, family celebrations and weddings. All things which we have experience in and can help you to arrange.
Lorgues was founded in the 12th century by the Knights Templar and offers several historical buildings as well as several restaurants, cafés, bars, cinema and sports halls. Golf is just 30 mins. away. Lorgues is also one of the first 10 cities that characterise the original Provence.
The house is the ancient dwelling of an aristocratic family and we can boast of having their family tree dating back to the year 1654.
One of the very well known previous occupants of Maison du Midi is the Rasque family which today owns a very famous vineyard and chateau in the area.
